Exploring the Golden Circle
Our trip began with the iconic Golden Circle, a popular route that takes you through some of Iceland’s most stunning natural wonders. First on our list was Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site where we witnessed the dramatic rift between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.

The park is open year-round, and entry is free, though there is a parking fee of around 750 ISK (about $5 USD). We marveled at the geological formations and enjoyed a scenic walk through the park’s rugged landscapes.
Next, we visited Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most famous waterfalls. The “Golden Falls” is a spectacular sight, where the Hvítá river cascades down in two stages into a deep canyon. We arrived in the early afternoon, and the sunlight made the water shimmer like gold. Gullfoss is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, with no admission fee. The sight of the waterfall surrounded by a wintery wonderland was simply breathtaking.
Relaxing at the Blue Lagoon
No trip to Iceland is complete without a visit to the Blue Lagoon, a geothermal spa renowned for its soothing, mineral-rich waters. We booked an afternoon session, allowing us to soak in the warm, milky-blue waters while enjoying the surrounding volcanic landscape. The lagoon offers various packages, with prices starting at around 6,990 ISK (about $50 USD) for standard admission. The experience was incredibly relaxing and a perfect way to unwind after a day of exploration.
Charming Accommodation
For our stay, we chose the Silica Hotel, conveniently located near the Blue Lagoon. This charming hotel offered us a serene retreat with stunning views of the surrounding lava fields. The Silica Hotel features its own private lagoon, where we enjoyed a more tranquil and intimate soak compared to the main Blue Lagoon. Room rates start at around 29,000 ISK per night (approximately $215 USD), reflecting its comfortable accommodations and proximity to the spa.
Lykkers, our Icelandic adventure was a remarkable journey through some of the country’s most awe-inspiring landscapes. From the stunning vistas of the Golden Circle to the rejuvenating waters of the Blue Lagoon, every experience was a testament to Iceland’s natural beauty.
