In the present stage of agricultural development, it is crucial to redefine agriculture. To achieve a fundamental transformation of Chinese agriculture in the future, we must reconceptualize and redefine agriculture.
Agriculture cannot merely be considered a servant or subordinate industry to industrialization and urbanization. Instead, agricultural production should be viewed as a complete natural reproduction process that utilizes land as a carrier and deals with living plants and animals.
As long as the process of reproduction and creation is combined with the land, deals with living plants and animals, and is carried out in a natural state, it falls within the scope of agriculture. By expanding the connotation of agriculture, we can lay the foundation for the future spatial development of the countryside and the diversification of economic activities.
This expansion can promote the development of agricultural functions from a single food agriculture to health, characteristics, ecology, leisure, culture, history, and education, making agriculture multifunctional and complex.
In the new stage of agricultural development, the basic status and role of agriculture need to be redefined. We should move away from the traditional approach of assessing the importance of agriculture in terms of its GDP share.
Instead, the basic status and role of agriculture should be mainly as follows: first, agricultural production is irreplaceable, and state support for agriculture is the basic guarantee for the basic livelihood of the people;.
Second, the importance of agriculture for ensuring national food security will remain crucial for a considerable period of time, and the importance of agriculture in providing food security will continue to increase.
Third, the function of agriculture will continue to extend from production to life and ecological functions, and its importance to the quality of human life will continue to rise.
Fourth, the importance and status of agricultural supply quality in the structural reform on the supply side is pivotal, and the transformation of agricultural supply from low complexity to high complexity is the key to promoting structural reform on the supply side in the agricultural field.
To achieve these objectives, we need to accelerate the mechanization of agriculture, promote the machine-for-human policy, and implement actions to enhance agricultural processing technology integration and scientific research base construction.
We need to implement leisure agriculture and rural tourism projects, develop idle farm buildings, farmland, and other assets for rural tourism, increase the income of farmers, and promote the integration of agriculture and culture, tourism, and the economy.
We should vigorously promote rural entrepreneurship and innovation.
We also need to implement new business entities, promote multi-faceted business development, increase opportunities for small farmers to connect with modern agriculture, enhance the ability of small farmers to resist risks, and increase farmers' economic returns.
By doing so, we can achieve poverty alleviation in the agricultural industry.
Moreover, we must strengthen the support of agricultural science and technology, making science and technology a new driving force for agricultural transformation and upgrading.
As more and more laborers leave the countryside, a large number of rural fields are deserted, and the population engaged in agricultural production is old, the problem of labor shortage is further aggravated in traditional intensive agricultural production.
This raises labor costs and consequently the price of agricultural products. Adhering to independent innovation in agricultural science and technology can not only greatly liberate productivity but also improve production quality and promote lower costs, higher quality, and efficiency in agricultural production.
In the development of modern agriculture, crop chemical control technology, biological control technology, water conservation and preservation technology, and agricultural information technology have been applied to solve many agricultural technology problems and achieve mechanized, scientific and technological, and sustainable agricultural production.
Redefining agriculture and strengthening its role in the economy is crucial for the future.
