"armchair" is a general term for chairs with armrests, including circle and corner chairs; the rest are all called armchairs.
They come in simple and complex styles, often coordinated with coffee tables as a set. Placing four chairs and two tables on either side of the living room creates a symmetrical display.
Armchairs are known for their convenience, lightness, and affordability. They are preferred as travel accessories, being easy to carry and suitable for various occasions such as gatherings, cooling off, and outdoor leisure. They are easy to open and fold, taking up minimal storage space. The stress points are reinforced with leather, making them durable and resistant to wear.
Currently, there are three types of ergonomic chair armrests on the market:
1. Fixed Armrests: These are the armrests of early ergonomic chairs. They cannot be adjusted in height and are not movable. If the table does not match them, the armrests may not be helpful and serve mainly as decoration.
2. Multi-dimensional Adjustable Armrests: Most chairs on the market fall into this category. For example, the armrests of Daboli Ergosmart can be adjusted in height, depth, and angle, providing flexibility based on the user's needs during work.
3. Foldable Armrests: Some chairs now feature foldable armrests, a feature previously seen in shuttle buses or movie theater seats. This design allows users to fold the armrests when not in use. However, the drawback is that it lacks the flexibility of multi-dimensional adjustable armrests and tends to experience increased wear and tear due to frequent folding.
The concept of armchair theory or armchair scholarship refers to a method that provides new developments in a field without directly engaging in primary research or collecting further information. It involves analyzing or synthesizing existing academic scholarship and is often used in a derogatory sense, implying that the scholarship is weak or superficial.
Different disciplines place varying emphasis on pure theoretical research. Some anthropologists argue that pure academic anthropological research is outdated and that fieldwork should be essential to anthropological studies. On the other hand, some critics believe that economic theory aims to explain and predict economic phenomena, which require data analysis and synthesis, not necessarily data collection.
Armchair scholarship, in essence, involves actively investigating nature through data collection. Armchair philosophers and theorists can help formulate theories to interpret observed results. These theories can then be tested through further scientific research. While the methods of armchair philosophers differ from those of empirical scientists, they can complement each other to generate new insights or necessary truths.
In armchairs, comfort intertwines seamlessly with functionality, creating a vivid tapestry of living. From the classical elegance of fixed armrests to the modern convenience of multi-dimensional adjustments and the clever practicality of foldable designs, each armchair type carries its taste and wisdom. Much like the evolution of ergonomic chairs, choices in life are ever-changing.
Armchairs serve not only as home decor but also as reliable companions for travel adventures. In this relaxed and comfortable corner, armchairs silently narrate life's nuances with their flexibility and durability. May everyone find their perfect armchair, embracing moments crafted uniquely for themselves.
