Summer Drinks

Hot weather has a way of making everything feel slower, including what you want to drink. Heavy, overly complicated options just don't fit the mood.
What works better are simple, refreshing mixes you can make quickly at home with everyday ingredients. Nothing fancy—just clean flavors, cold temperature, and a bit of natural sweetness.
Light Citrus Lemonade
This is the kind of drink that never really gets old. It's sharp, slightly sweet, and instantly refreshing when poured over ice.
Ingredients:
• Fresh lemons (3–4 pieces)
• Cold water (about 1 liter)
• Honey or sugar (adjust to taste)
• Ice cubes
• A few mint leaves (optional)
Steps:
1. Squeeze the lemons into a jug and remove seeds
2. Mix in honey or sugar until fully dissolved
3. Add cold water and stir well
4. Chill in the fridge or serve immediately over ice
5. Add mint leaves if you want a slightly fresher finish
The key here is balance. Too sweet and it feels heavy, too sour and it becomes sharp instead of refreshing.
Cold Herbal Tea
This one is surprisingly underrated. Once cooled, herbal tea becomes smooth and light, perfect for long afternoons.
Ingredients:
• Herbal tea bags (chamomile, mint, or similar)
• Hot water (for brewing)
• Cold water or ice
• Lemon slices (optional)
Steps:
1. Brew the tea using hot water and let it steep fully
2. Remove the tea bags and let it cool down
3. Pour over ice or mix with cold water
4. Add lemon slices if you want a slightly brighter taste
What makes this drink work is patience. Letting it cool naturally helps the flavor settle instead of tasting rushed.
Fruit Infused Water
This is the simplest option, but also one of the most flexible. It's basically water with character.
Ingredients:
• Water (still or chilled)
• Sliced fruits (orange, strawberry, apple, or cucumber)
• A few mint leaves
Steps:
1. Slice fruits into thin pieces
2. Add them into a large bottle or jar
3. Fill with water and let it sit for at least an hour
4. Serve chilled, refilling water as needed
The longer it sits, the more subtle flavor it picks up. It's not strong, just lightly flavored and easy to keep drinking throughout the day.
Simple Banana Smoothie
When you need something a bit more filling but still light, a smoothie works well.
Ingredients:
• Ripe bananas (2 pieces)
• Cold milk or plant-based milk (about 250 ml)
• Ice cubes
• A small spoon of honey (optional)
Steps:
1. Add all ingredients into a blender
2. Blend until smooth and creamy
3. Pour into a tall glass and serve immediately
The texture is what makes it satisfying—thick enough to feel like a snack, but still easy to drink.
Keeping It Simple Works Best
The main idea behind summer drinks isn't complexity. It's about comfort. Cold, clean flavors that don't feel heavy and don't take long to prepare. Most of these recipes use ingredients already in the kitchen, which makes them easy to repeat without planning.
Instead of overthinking what to drink, it usually comes down to what feels right in the moment—something cold, something light, and something that fits the pace of a warm day.
