Matte Red Power!

Red matte lipstick has always had a certain confidence about it. It’s bold without needing sparkle, classic without feeling outdated. Over time, I’ve tried a handful of brands that promise that perfect matte red—some live up to the hype, others… not so much.
Here are three that stood out to me, each with its own personality and charm.

1. Maybelline New York

There’s something reliable about Maybelline. When I first tried their matte red lipstick, I didn’t expect it to feel as smooth as it did. The color payoff is strong right from the first swipe, which I appreciate when I’m in a hurry and don’t want to layer too much. It dries into a soft matte finish—not overly flat, not too dry—and it manages to stay comfortable for hours. I’ve worn it to long days out and barely needed touch-ups, except after meals. It gives that “effortlessly put together” look, even when the rest of my makeup is minimal.

2. Dear Me Beauty

Dear Me Beauty feels a bit more playful to me. The red shade I tried had a slightly modern twist—not too deep, not too bright, just somewhere in between that makes it wearable for both daytime and night. What I like most is the lightweight feel. Sometimes I forget I even have it on, which is rare for matte formulas. It doesn’t cling awkwardly to dry patches either, which makes it a good option when my lips aren’t in perfect condition. It’s the kind of lipstick I reach for when I want something easy but still eye-catching.

3. Wardah Matte Lip Shot

Wardah’s Matte Lip Shot gives off a different vibe altogether. It feels a bit more dramatic, in a good way. The red shade leans slightly richer, making it perfect for evenings or when I want a more defined look. The texture is quite fluid at first, but once it sets, it really stays in place. I’ve noticed it holds up well through drinks and light snacks, though I still like to reapply just to keep it fresh. It can feel a bit more “matte” compared to the others, but that also adds to its bold finish.
These three each bring something different to the table, and that’s what makes switching between them feel less like routine and more like a small creative choice each day.
